Small Kitchen Design Can Simplify Your Cooking

Monday, February 21st, 2011

In most people’s homes, the kitchen is at the center. Your kitchen should be clean and should be as efficiently organized as possible so that it can be as “spacious” as possible (even if it’s a small kitchen), with everything in it necessary to cook. As long as you have these things, your kitchen can be perfect. And as the heart of your home, your kitchen is probably the most lived in room as well. Because of this, make sure you set it up so that it’s easy to use, especially when you’re cooking.

One can use attractive kitchen handles to promote a superior look in a small kitchen design. There are different types of kitchen handles in the market that can change the look of your kitchen. However, the most important factor to be considered while getting a good kitchen handle is that it should be easy to use.

When you are working on a small kitchen design, you can distribute the kitchen area in different ways. For instance, one part can be used as a storage area where all the extra items are kept; another part can be used to store spices and all other cooking items that are required regularly. They should be at close proximity to you for easy access to all the items.

When you work in your kitchen, you should feel comfortable. Because of this, how you decorate your kitchen is going to depend on your tastes. Elegant, simple, clean designs can make you feel comfortable, and your kitchen should also have good ventilation. Common kitchen colors for a light, energetic feel include light blue, or fresh yellow. wooden kitchen clocks will also make your kitchen more attractive, and can also help you in your chores. Stylish, classic models that hang on the wall are one option, or you can use tabletop versions that you can have near you when you’re cooking, so that you can keep track of the time. When you choose kitchen clocks, make sure they fit in with your kitchen’s overall theme.

Lighting is another important component in your kitchen. Different colors of lights will have different effects depending on the overall color of your kitchen. Proper lighting, along with the proper kitchen color, can make your kitchen look bigger than it is. If you have a small kitchen, don’t use fluorescent lights, because this can make it harder to work in your kitchen and even make it depressing.

Kitchen flooring is another important component to overall kitchen design. A wood floor is one good choice, although you should be careful not to have unsealed wood floors or another type of “soft” flooring. It should be something that can stand up to having liquids and other items spilled on it, and it should be something that is as nonslip as possible. It should go with the overall design of the kitchen, and should be comfortable to walk on.

If your kitchen is big enough, and you have a bar in the kitchen, you can add stools. These will provide extra seating for guests, as they can sit in the kitchen while you work. If your kitchen is “eat in,” you can certainly have guests eating your kitchen, as is the current trend. Your kitchen should be neat and tidy, but comfortable and easy to work in.

Keep your Child in an Kitchen Hazard-Free Environment

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Our kitchen is always full of safety hazards for our babies who always want to touch, taste and explore everything that they come in contact with. The kitchen is indeed one of the dangerous places our infants can be.

Warming a bottle of milk in a microwave oven is one thing that some parents still do which is very unsafe especially when the infant is around. As you may notice, the microwave does not heat our food thoroughly sometimes, so if you want to avoid burning your kids lips and mouth, never heat their milk in the microwave oven. Make sure you test the heat of the drink first before you give this to the baby if you do intend to give them warm drinks.

Holding the baby while you are eating or drinking something which is hot can be another hazard to your child. Your child tends to wiggle a lot, especially when they are in your arms, so don’t ever try to be a “super parent” and do multi task. Same is true with cigarettes. When you want to smoke stay away from the child and have someone else watch over them. Lighters or matches are very hazardous to your child and you don’t want them to be second-hand smokers.

Never hold your child and operate a stove or oven or do any cooking at the same time. The same is true with wood stoves, fireplaces and radiators. Block anything that is hot and can be within your child’s reach.

Tablecloths with knives and utensils or place on it should not be left hanging on the edge of the table. Your child can easily tug this and they will end up hurting themselves.

Never leave any door unlocked that can be reached by your baby at any times. Keyless deadbolts or electronic door locks can be good devices you can get to keep your kids safe at home.
